Meet the Westonian staff

Westonian Cartoonist

Graduating Senior Staffers

Qumare C. (left) will be attending Morris College in the Fall of 2007, majoring in criminal  justice. “I’ve been on the newspaper for the last two years; it has been a great experience and it will be a memory( forever.  I will miss Mr. Snowden because he encouraged me to be the best of the best and to never let anyone pull me down.”

Brian M. (center), our cartoonist, is particularly fond of the Japanese Animé style of cartooning. “I have always loved Animé from the very beginning. I also wish to be part of it someday. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but my best outlook in life is to be yourself and ride the waves to where destiny takes you.”

After graduation Shaquana R. M. (left) plans to attend the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She will major in  Pre-Med and Biology. “Working on the news paper has been fun. Even though I did not always get my articles done on time, I got them in and they were printed. I have been a Lady Rider for four years. When I become a Hawk, I will never forget where my foundation was set.”- “A dream is never deferred, unless you push it away.”

Editor-in Chief

Editor-in-Chief Elijah M. is currently a junior.  He is also number one in his junior class. He debates, runs track, speaks, stands, delivers, writes, and is happy to be graduating soon.  “My favorite poet is a man by the name of T.S. Eliot who has inspired me through literary prose to achieve my highest dreams.  Even though his poetry sometimes exudes despondency; he has taught me that being different is not always to be necessarily extremely different, but unconventional and uncommon.” “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go,” Eliot says.

“I’ve always viewed life as a game of chess, with many possible twists and turns, moves, and a battlefield where only the cunning win.  Life, like a game of chess, unfortunately has its losers too; those individuals who pay little attention to their surroundings and the atmosphere around them and aren’t as quick witted as their adversaries.  In a game of  chess, there are many pieces, intricate rules, and even timed situations. Life presents some of the same subtleties and intricacies that chess does.  Life parallels chess in the greatest sense, even when it comes to its losers and winners.”

“Working for the Westonian has created a new chapter in my book of life; it has not only helped me hone my writing skills, but has furthered my love for journalism.  I plan to make a future out of my current love for journalism and I recommend that those who have a dream, however farfetched or intangible it seems, always be persistent in accomplishing that dream.  Who taught me this lesson?  Well, let’s just say a little lady in room 315 who teaches English has a way with words…”

Staffers

Becklyne T. will be a senior in September.   She wants to be someone in life as she pushes one more step towards success. “I look forward to establishing and setting higher goals as I take the role of  Vice President of our senior class. Currently I work a part time job at The Newark Museum. In addition to that, I will be returning to the newspaper club and Student Leadership with Mr. Snowden. I look forward to a challenging and successful senior year.”

Tamara A. joined the Westonian staff this year as a sophomore.  Her excellent interviewing skills have made her an asset to the Westonian.  In addition to writing for the newspaper, Tamara is also  the Publisher and Editor of the West Side High School literary magazine.  Tamara is a dedicated student who is determined to succeed.  Those who know her, though, say her real passion is singing.

Columnist

Daniel L. has  matured a lot through the years, more than he thought. “School has taught me to live life to the fullest. I have more confidence in myself, to achieve any goal I have planned. My past taught me how to learn from my mistakes, and to better succeed for the future. Now that I’m becoming a senior with a lot of experience, I have  the strength for even better achievements.”
